Carrollwood, Florida, is a planned, up-scale community in the North Tampa area of Hillsborough County.
Now generally know as original Carrollwood, as opposed to Carrollwood Village its newer neighborhood just to the north and west, it was developed by Matt Jetton over fifty years ago. Carrollwood is a suburban community established in the 1960's and was one of the first planned unit developments in the country.
Carrollwood is on the west side of Lake Carroll, the largest lake in the immediate metro area. The attraction to the Carrollwood area has always been the parks, tennis courts and White Sands Beach, the public access to Lake Carroll that is exclusively for residents. Carrollwood is also distinguished by its curving streets that lend an appeal not found in cookie cutter tract subdivisions.
The majority of the new buyers moving to the Original Carrollwood area are either couples who grew up in the area and appreciate the amenities and look of the area or they are from South Tampa, south of Kennedy Blvd, who still want to be convenient located close to Tampa but realize they can afford a much nicer home.
